How YOU Can Support Scouting

100 for 100 Preserving Scouting for Another 100 Years

Check with your employers - Some businesses not only do matching gifts for financial donations their employees make to non-profits (a great way to make your Friends of Scouting donations grow), but many contribute money to the Council Office in their employee’s name for the hours they volunteer.  Those that we identified are Verizon, Merck, Colgate-Palmolive, and Exxon Mobil.  If you work for one of these organizations, you just have to complete a form and depending on the employer, you can get anywhere from $500 to $2,000 donated to Scouting by your employer, just for doing what you already do.  Please check with your employer to see if they have programs like these.

  • Merck Dollars for Doers Program - The Dollars for Doers component of the Merck Volunteers program allows Merck employees who log at least 40 volunteer hours during the calendar year at an eligible non-profit organization to request a $500 Dollars for Doers cash contribution from the Merck Company Foundation. (Maximum of 80 hours and $1000 per year per employee.) When you have accumulated and tracked your volunteer hours on the website, you are ready to apply for a Dollars for Doers contribution. Once your application is received, Merck Volunteers administrators will verify your hours.

Who do you contact if you need help or have a question? - For non-technical questions including questions related to the Dollars for Doers component, please contact Janet Donovan via email at janet_donovan@merck.com or by phone, (908) 423-3516.  For technical questions about the database, your account, tracking hours, or searching for opportunities, please contact the Volunteer Match help desk at (415) 241-6872, or via email at merck_support@volunteermatch.org.

Here's the web link that they need to access from the Merck intranet to create a Merck Volunteers account:  http://pubaff.merck.com/merckvolunteers/dollars_for_doers.html

Once you create a account, then log into Merck Volunteers to record hours - https://merck.volunteermatch.org/

Please choose Central New Jersey Council, Boy Scouts with Marc Richardson as the contact.

  • Verizon Volunteer Incentive Program recognizes employees' contribution of time and talent to nonprofit organizations. Under the program, employees are eligible to apply for a grant on behalf of the qualified organization where they volunteered 50 hours or more during the year. Even if you are not a registered leader but help out as a parent on campouts, ceremonies, trips, occasional meetings, etc. you can qualify.  The Foundation rewards these employee volunteers with a $750 check for presentation to the designated organization. Employees may request VIP grants on behalf of two separate organizations for a total of $1,500 each year. To learn more about this volunteer initiative and to complete your candidate profile, please visit the employee volunteerism initiative page on the Verizon corporate intranet at http://corp.verizon.com/foundation/0305.shtml. Verizon Wireless employees should visit their employee Intranet site at: http://hrconnect.vzwcorp.com:8000/pls/vzc/hrg.redr.

The 1910 Society

The 1910 Society was named in recognition of the year when the visionary early leaders founded the Boy Scouts of America, which was patterned after a fledgling - but popular - Scouting program developed in England by Sir Baden-Powell.

Individuals or organizations that contribute $25,000 or more to the Central New Jersey Council's endowment fund are honored in this prestigious group. Members receive a leather-bound edition of the Boy Scout Handbook, distinctive pin, and framed certificate. We salute Central New Jersey Council's 1910 Society members for perpetuating Scouting's future through their generosity.

Should you have any questions, please call Ken Hardy, the Central New Jersey Council Director of Development Services at (609) 419-1600 x21 or e-mail him at Ken.Hardy@Scouting.org.

The Founders Circle

The Founders Circle is intended to recognize deferred gifts designated for the Central New Jersey Council endowment fund. With deferred giving so widely and effectively used by so many donors, the Boy Scouts of America wants to recognize the importance of such major gifts. Donors are recognized for gift commitments with a minimum value of $100,000.

Should you have any questions, please call Ken Hardy, the Central New Jersey Council Director of Development Services at (609) 419-1600 x21 or e-mail him at Ken.Hardy@Scouting.org.
